Our Voice on the Page Workshop is a fun, intensive 4-week workshop that focuses on getting your true voice down on the page and out into the world.
To counter the media's often generalized, idealized, nostalgic, sometimes negative and often stereotypical depictions of the "golden years", this workshop will draw upon your current experiences, understandings and discoveries from this chapter of your life to give voice to how multi-dimensional, vital, and significant this segment of our population truly is.
At the end of the workshops you will have created a character-driven monologue or story that will be performed in front of an invited audience.
These stories will be teased out through weekly writing prompts that stimulate your imagination and guide you to pull from your perspective to find authentic, entertaining ways to communicate your unique experience and bring it to life.
Our culture, especially, can benefit from a broader, deeper perspective of the possibilities and realities of life past the age of 50.
We are encouraging you to become an active part of that conversation, and we are inviting you to begin here, with us.
Do I have to be an experienced writer? Not at all.
What if I do have writing chops – will this workshop provide me with enough of a challenge? Yes. Everyone will be actively contributing at their particular level of experience.
Do I have to perform at the end of the workshop? Ideally, yes! If you have a bit of "stage fright," however, we can recruit someone to perform your piece for you.
What if I can't attend all 4 weeks? We encourage you to sign-up for and attend all of the sessions. If you can't commit to all 4, we recommend getting on the waiting list for the next one.
Can I use the workshop to spiff up something I'm already writing? One of the hallmarks of our program is that each participant develops a wholly original piece, created within an 4-week timeframe. (But please keep working on your other stuff too)!
Can I pay with a check? Yes. If you prefer to pay by check instead of a credit card, send us an e-mail and we'll let you know how to make it out and where to mail it in
